Hotels to consider for your trip

These are options to compare by location and travel plans, not a ranking.

Room layouts, facilities and booking conditions may change. Confirm them with the hotel and on the booking page before payment.

For an afternoon and evening in Tsim Sha Tsui, visit the art museum first and then wait for the skyline to light up along the Avenue of Stars. Choose a hotel by where you will return after the walk and the room you are actually booking, rather than its harbour-view photographs. This guide combines a walk from the ferry pier with four hotel options.

Visit the museum before heading to the waterfront

The museum exterior as photographed. Check current exhibitions and nearby access for your visit.

The suggested sequence is Star Ferry Pier → Clock Tower → Hong Kong Museum of Art → Avenue of Stars. Arriving by ferry from Central or Wan Chai makes the pier a natural starting point. If you are already in Kowloon, there is no need to cross the harbour just for this walk. Still choosing a base? Read the Hong Kong neighbourhood comparison (Korean) first.

After a photo stop at the Clock Tower, continue to the museum at 10 Salisbury Road. Regular hours are 10:00–18:00 Monday–Wednesday and Friday, and 10:00–21:00 on weekends and public holidays. It closes on Thursdays unless they are public holidays. General admission is free, but special exhibitions may charge separately. Checking the closure day first avoids having to rebuild your itinerary outside a locked door.

Choose exhibitions that interest you, then use the remaining time for the outdoor walk. Finishing your indoor visit in one go is simpler than going back and forth between exhibitions and harbour views. On a Thursday, plan around the Clock Tower and waterfront instead of leaving time for an exhibition. Recheck exhibitions and opening hours for your visit date.

Stay for the evening along the Avenue of Stars

The Avenue of Stars waterfront. This photograph does not guarantee a viewing spot or sightline for the evening show.

The Avenue of Stars combines film personalities’ handprints and statues with views of Hong Kong Island. Frequent photo stops make it unwise to squeeze meals and breaks into a map’s walking-time estimate. Set aside time to eat and rest, then decide whether to stay by the water after dinner or return to your hotel.

A Symphony of Lights is normally scheduled for 20:00 daily, with no admission fee. Viewing locations include the Cultural Centre waterfront and the Avenue of Stars. A harbour-view hotel room does not necessarily offer a clear view of the show or its music. Check cancellation notices: a tropical cyclone signal No. 3 or above, or a red or black rainstorm warning issued at or after 15:00 cancels that evening’s show, even if withdrawn before 20:00.

If long walks are difficult, separate the museum visit and waterfront walk into different time slots. If waiting outdoors is uncomfortable, do not make the show essential to the itinerary. When your companions find walking tiring, choose the stretches they want to see rather than walking from the Clock Tower to the end of the Avenue of Stars and back. The Hong Kong guide for parents and large luggage (Korean) can also help you consider exits and transport.

Two hotels on Salisbury Road

The Peninsula Hong Kong sign and facade
A landscape crop of The Peninsula Hong Kong exterior, not the Salisbury YMCA discussed in the same section.

The Peninsula Hong Kong, on Salisbury Road, is an option for a walk focused on the museum and Cultural Centre. Its Deluxe Room measures 41–45 sqm, with a king or twin beds and street or city views in the original building. Being near the harbour does not make this a harbour-view category. Decide whether space and bedding or the view from your window matters more. The Peninsula Hong Kong · Check rooms on Agoda

The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong is at 41 Salisbury Road. Its Standard Room is approximately 23 sqm, with one queen or two single beds and city and/or garden views. Although both hotels are on the same road, these room categories differ in size. Compare room for two people’s luggage alongside bedding; if you need twins, check the bed selection on the room you book. The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong · Check rooms on Agoda

For both hotels, read the room category and view before relying on the property name. If a harbour view is essential, do not book on the basis of the basic room descriptions above. Compare the listed view, occupancy, breakfast inclusion, cancellation conditions and final total. This guide does not guarantee prices or availability for any particular date.

Canton Road hotels and the route back after your walk

Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel is at Harbour City, 3 Canton Road. Consider it when combining a waterfront itinerary with a visit to Harbour City. Its Superior Room measures 25–37 sqm, with queen or twin bedding. Do not assume that this category includes a harbour view. Also distinguish it from Gateway and Prince, other hotels at Harbour City. Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel · Check rooms on Agoda

Royal Pacific Hotel is at China Hong Kong City, 33 Canton Road. It is an option when finishing the day around Canton Road. The Hotel Wing’s Premier Room is 22 sqm with a city view and a queen or two single beds. If you want a Tower Wing room or harbour view, check the wing and category you are booking separately. Royal Pacific Hotel · Check rooms on Agoda

Finally, check the direction you will return after the walk. Compare The Peninsula Hong Kong · Check rooms on Agoda and The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong · Check rooms on Agoda for a stay centred on Salisbury Road, or Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel · Check rooms on Agoda and Royal Pacific Hotel · Check rooms on Agoda when combining Harbour City or Canton Road plans. Compare room size, bedding, views and final payment conditions for the same dates and guest count.
