JR Nara Station and Kintetsu-Nara Station are different stations. The more convenient place to stay depends on whether you want to leave your luggage before sightseeing or visit the park before checking in. This guide narrows the choice to four hotels for two people visiting Nara for the first time, based on station access and room details. It is a planning guide, not a firsthand stay review.

Which station will you arrive at?

Start with your arrival station. Check whether your route search says JR Nara or Kintetsu-Nara. When a hotel advertises a short walk from the station, check which station it means.

If you arrive by JR and want to drop off your bags first, compare Hotel Nikko Nara, Piazza Hotel Nara and Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nara on the west side. Nikko connects to the west exit of JR Nara Station; Piazza lists a walk of about 1 minute from JR Nara, and Daiwa Roynet about 3 minutes. These are not times to your room. Allow separately for leaving the platform and waiting to check in.

If you arrive at Kintetsu-Nara and head toward the park, IROHA GRAND HOTEL Kintetsu-Nara is another option. It lists a walk of about 2 minutes from Kintetsu-Nara, a different arrival point from the hotels beside the JR station. Deciding where to leave your luggage helps clarify your first move before sightseeing.

Put hotels west of JR Nara lower on your list if you arrive at Kintetsu-Nara and want to visit the park first. However, if you plan to take an early JR train the following day, an easier departure may matter more than a detour on arrival. Consider both days together.

Separate your park walk from your luggage collection

Nara Park is accessible east of Kintetsu-Nara Station. From JR Nara, you can walk along Sanjo-dori or take a bus. The park is not a small destination with just one entrance to tick off. Enter the temple or museum you actually plan to visit into your map, rather than just the park name.

When deciding how much to walk in a day, connect your morning sights, a rest stop and your hotel into one route. Even a short approach to the park can lead to a tiring return if you walk a lot inside it.

Save Nara Park and Naramachi separately if you want to visit both. Naramachi is an area of historic streets; treating it and the park as one stop can make it easy to underestimate the walking. Reduce plans to cover the whole park on foot if someone in your group finds long walks difficult. Leave yourself a way back to the hotel even if you finish sightseeing earlier than planned.

If you will sightsee after checkout, confirm whether the hotel can hold your luggage and when you can collect it. Map the journey from your final sight back to the hotel to retrieve your bags. Do not assume luggage storage is automatically included with every booking.

Hotel Nikko Nara is worth considering first if you want a hotel connected to the JR station. Its Standard Twin is 23 m² and has a combined bathroom with the bath and toilet in one space. Assess the station connection and the practicality of the room’s bathroom separately.

Piazza Hotel Nara is an option for two people prioritizing JR access while comparing different twin categories. Do not choose only by the broad label “twin”: check the exact room name on the booking screen alongside its bathroom photos. If you need a bathtub, avoid paying based only on a description of shower facilities.

At Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nara, note the difference between the 22.04 m² Comfort Twin and the 16.41 m² Standard Twin. Both are listed with combined bathrooms. Put the 16.41 m² Standard Twin lower on your list if you need to keep two large suitcases open. Room area includes the bathroom, so it does not represent the floor space available for your bags.

Compare IROHA GRAND HOTEL Kintetsu-Nara if you want to stay on the Kintetsu side. Its Moderate Twin is 22.80 m² with a combined bathroom, while the Hollywood Twin has two beds placed together. If you want beds apart, confirm the layout instead of relying solely on “two beds” in the description.

Compare all four hotels for the same dates and two adults, with matching breakfast and cancellation conditions. Check the room’s bathroom layout separately from whether a communal bath is available. The local scenery photos in this guide do not show hotel views or facilities.

Check your departure route before booking

The final criterion is your station after checkout. Work out whether you will depart from JR Nara or Kintetsu-Nara, when you will collect your bags, and which walking segments you would shorten in the rain.

If you arrive late, tell the hotel your expected check-in time and plan dinner separately. A restaurant appearing on a map does not mean you can order when you arrive. Recheck train times and restaurants’ last orders for your travel date.

Just before paying, check the hotel name, station, room category, guest count and cancellation deadline. If an essential requirement such as a bathtub, separate beds or luggage storage remains uncertain, wait for the hotel’s answer before booking.
